Statement Regarding Orlando

I woke up yesterday morning in Orlando, on a short vacation with my son, to hear of the horrific, murderous rampage at Pulse night club-yet one more mass shooting in this country. My heart is breaking for the family and friends of those killed and wounded.

This is an act of hate. The killer targeted this club and the people who were there because of who they were: primarily members of the LGBTQ community. Whether the killer was motivated by some connection to a terrorist group, such as ISIS, or because of his own deep homophobic feelings, he was inspired by hate to commit this act of violence.

The antidote to hate is not more hate.  As Patty Sheehan, City Commissioner in Orlando said today: "Love will overcome hatred every single time."
